Jaill, Gospel Claws, Heligoats

I’m having a hard time pigeon-holing Milwaukee based Jaill, which I think is a good thing!  I hear influences ranging from Black Lips to Brendan Benson (of Raconteurs), and even stretching to find something that reminds me of Eagles of Death Metal (am I grasping here?) on my favorite track from The Stroller, the leader of their latest album That’s How We Burn.  Bottom line is that it sounds fresh to me… thank god!

At least one song on Arizona based Gospel Claws’ MySpace offerings suits their name to a T.  You Got It Bad is a gospel influenced indie-rock number with some scratch.  Not too much info on these guys other than their debut album is due out this fall and I’ll be on the lookout for it.

The next entry is for all of you Clem Snide fans out there, because they sound a bit like… ummm… Clem Snide.  A friend pointed me to Heligoats (primarily a guy named Chris Otepka along with a seemingly changing backup band) after seeing them fittingly open for Clem Snide. Goodness Gracious is a simple tune that just makes you feel like you just might understand why there are songs in the first place.
